My pal Mindy Raf is using this cool site called Kickstarter to fund her comedy album project.
Kickstarter.com is a Web site that helps connect aspiring artists with patrons who finance their projects. Here’s a video about Mindy’s comedy album project:
The folks at Kickstarter believe that: a good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide and
a large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement. Interestingly, you only collect your pledges if you reach your total goal. Why? Kickstarter thinks this method allows people to test concepts (or conditionally sell stuff) without risk. If you don’t receive the support you want, you’re not compelled to follow through. Plus, I personally think such an all or nothing approach probably pushes people even further to solicit those needed funds.
So if you’re an artist with a creative endevour in mind, but not enough cash in your bank account, check out Kickstarter. Or if you’re a generous art lover who wants to help someone (like Mindy) make thier dream project a reality, go to Kickstarter, give a project as little as $1, and help kickstart start something great!
