I saw Oren Moverman’s The Messenger at The Nantucket Film Festival this past summer and I was pretty impressed. The film is about two men in the Army whose job it is to go to the homes of dead soldiers’ relatives and deliver the bad news.
It is strange, honest and a potent look at the effects of war and personal motivations. Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson give two great performances and Foster in particular steals the show and breaks your heart.
The trailer is a pretty good representation of the film. It really gets across the lightness and the darkness that define the film and outline the characters.
It really is a important film about an aspect of war that we all try to forget more than think about. If it comes to a town near you, do see it!
