Facebook Helps Catch A Thief Posted by Giulia Rozzi on October 5, 2009 at 11:34 pm

facebook-addiction2I think this story best demonstrates just how bad a Facebook addiction can get.

The Telegraph reports that some moron in Rome was caught robbing a house because…ready for it…in the middle of the crime, the thief used the homeowners computer to post status updates on his Facebook wall! This guy just couldn’t wait, he had to pause in the midst of invading someone’s home, violating their space, and ransacking their personal belongings, so that he could share his feelings with the Facebook community. Major Ivo Di Blasio, of the carabinieri paramilitary police explains “the owner of the house had left the computer on and when the Facebook site flashed up on the screen we had the name of the burglar and we simply went to his house and arrested him, as well as recovering the goods.”

Wow. Has it gotten so bad that common criminals are unable to focus on the task at hand because they are so distracted by social networking sites? I wonder what his updates said? “OMG Don’t steal my idea, but I’m totes robbing a house! LOL.” He may as well created a Facebook event for the crime and invited the local police department and media.

And I could on and on making fun of this guy, but I need to hurry up and finish this blog entry so I can post it on my Facebook page.

By the way this is not the first time this has happened. 19 year-old Jonathan G. Parker of Fort Loudoun, PA made the same felony faux pas last month. Oh you craaaazy criminals! (Insert hand on hip and head tilt here).
