Buffy Sainte-Marie Nominated For Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards Posted by Danny Jensen on October 4, 2009 at 8:27 pm

Buffy Sainte-Marie has been raising her voice for social and environmental issues since she shared the coffeehouse stage with the likes of Bob Dylan in the 60’s, and now the musician activist has received four nominations for the upcoming Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.  I’ve been a big fan of the protest songs of the 60’s and while sadly there are only a handful of musicians who directly address political issues these days, I’m glad that Buffy Sainte-Marie is carrying the torch and still turning out relevant and rockin’ music.

She’s nominated for best album of the year for “Running for the Drum”, as well as best female artist, best song single for “No No Keshagesh” and best songwriter.  Check out the video for “No No Keshagesh” below, a song that calls for the end of environmental destruction and the reigning in of corporate greed, which will most likely get stuck in your head.  And after that be sure to watch a great clip featuring one of Buffy Sainte=Marie’s many appearances on Sesame Street.
