Let me ask you a question pretty bluntly here: when’s the last time you thought about Darfur? Yeah, it’s not really been at the top of all of our radars recently. But there are some celebrity names (George Clooney, Don Cheadle, and the like) out there that want to make sure that we keep thinking about Darfur and the Sudanese crisis far more often, and keep working for a change.
With that in mind, it’s a great time to check in on Rachel Maddow, who recently pointed how just how far out of the American consciousness Darfur has gotten, and talked about how basketball star Tracy McGrady is doing his part to keep working for a safe Darfur. Watch this clip from The Rachel Maddow Show, where Maddow interviews McGrady and John Prendergast, co-founders of the Darfur Dream Team charity, a member of the TakePart Social Action Network.
McGrady has also recruited other basketball players such as Derrick Fisher and Baron Davis for the Darfur Dream Team, which is “a dynamic partnership of organizations and professional basketball players working together on the Sister Schools Program, an initiative to connect American middle schools, high schools, colleges, and universities with sister schools in the 12 refugee camps in Chad.” Please check out the website to learn more, and find out what you can do to help.
