Editor’s note: This guest post is written by Sussan Deyhim, a composer, vocalist and performance artist, on why she is supporting the refugees of Pakistan by getting involved with the Concert for Pakistan, Sept. 12 at the UN General Assembly in New York. You can find out more information about Sussan and her music at SussanDeyhim.com.

Being a female Iranian artist in exile for 33 years, the reality of misplacement from your roots is only too familiar to me. The excruciating injustice of being forced to leave the ground that has shaped you flesh and blood is nothing I wish for anyone on this planet, especially for the innocent children of Pakistan, a loved neighbor of Iran.

I think the concept of unity is something we must to pay more attention to—particularly in an era where we as a global community have witnessed so much bloodshed based on the superiority of one brotherhood over another, turning some of the most beautiful corners of our planet into the battlefield of racial, religious and socio/political blind faith. If we could pause for a moment to think of the future of our innocent children, even our angry and sometimes justified wounded historical experience will have to transcend into a deeper and wiser understanding of why we must stand for unity on this planet.

One world, One love, for all.

You can read all of the posts from those involved with the Concert for Pakistan here.
