Trash seems to be a major theme today, as we’ve already learned about building low-income housing out of trash, and collecting cans to help children, so I wanted to share with you the story of an artist who turns trash into street art. The following video shows the creations of artist Joshua Allen Harris, who turns plastic garbage bags into fantastical creatures that inflate and come alive when subways pass beneath the vents that they’re attached to.
The video has been around for a bit, but it’s new to me and I love how the sculptures surprise and delight passersby who have grown too accustomed to the obscene piles of trash that accumulate on the streets of New York. The creatures are also a great reminder of how we need to reduce the amount of waste we produce, and rethink what we can do with items that are otherwise heading to a landfill. Check it out:
Fun, right? Have you found a clever way to repurpose trash? Let us know in the comment section below, and be sure to check out our Talking Trash series about rethinking trash disposal in Honduras.
