One hundred days from now global leaders will gather in Copenhagen for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (or COP15 for the hip), and Grist has kindly created a helpful list of 100 things you don’t know about the highly anticipated event and the host city.
I visited Copenhagen a few years ago and discovered, among other (more fascinating) things, that my last name is more common in Denmark than Smith is in the U.S. I’m angling to make my way back there for the conference, where I can witness first-hand some of the fun facts gathered by Grist. Some of my climate-friendly favorites include:
At least 65 percent of food at the conference will be organic or fair-trade.
Only 3 percent of Copenhagen’s waste goes into landfills.
Copenhagen aims to be the world’s best city for cyclists.
If you rent a bike from the Copenhagen shop Baisikeli, proceeds go toward sending retrofitted bikes to Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Ghana.
And because I think the Yes Men are pretty awesome:
The Yes Men have launched a site where people can pledge to engage in civil disobedience the week before the Copenhagen talks to demand serious climate action.
Be sure to check out the entire list over at Grist and be sure to TakePart in the International Day of Climate Action sponsored by 350.org.
