The Dot Eco War Heats Up

Two groups vying for rights to “.eco” domain names continue to battle, which escalated when one group, Dot Eco, recently published a report challenging the feasible nature of its competitor’s plans. Big Room, the Canadian competitor, hasn’t publicly responded.
Backed by Al Gore, the Sierra Club, and the Alliance for Climate Protection, Dot Eco plans to use profits from sales of domain names to support green organizations. It has indicated it will donate 57% of its sales.
Big Room, endorsed by the WWF International and Green Cross, makes similar claims. In addition, it wants to use the .eco name to label sites that meet various environmental conscious credentials such as listing its carbon footprint.
