Climate Refugees: Alaskan Village Forced To Relocate

The residents of the small coastal village of Newtok, Alaska are now having to relocate because of melting permafrost and rising waters caused by climate change. It’s heartbreaking to know that an entire village is having to leave behind their home, but hopefully the community will find the needed resources to move together and establish the infrastructure for their new location. The village is certainly not the first group of climate refugees, and sadly will not be the last to be displaced by the devastating effects of climate change. Watch this slide show to learn more about the moving of Newtok and learn more from the Powering A Nation report:
