Gotta Dance: Hip-Hop For Seniors Only Posted by Danny Jensen on July 31, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Gotta Dance follows the journey of the New Jersey Nets’ first-ever senior hip-hop dance team from auditions to their debut center court performance and the movie looks amazing!  I love the idea of discovering new passions throughout life, and what better way to restore your confidence and swagger than busting a move on the basketball court when much of the world is trying to tell you that you’re past your prime.  And we’re not talking about Sweatin’ to the Oldies here, either.  This senior team, which consists of 12 women and 1 man whose ages range between 59 and 83, are having a blast showing off hip-hop choreography that might make my grandmother blush.  Oh, who am I kidding, she’s probably going to audition.

As the national debate on health care reform heats up, we should look to programs like The Gotta Dance Project, which aims to bring generations together through dance, health, fitness and mentoring.  Staying active throughout life is crucial to staying healthy both physically and mentally, not to mention how much fun it can be.  Gotta Dance opens in New York tonight, so if you’re there go check it out, otherwise check the list of upcoming screenings for other cities.  You can also host your own screening.  Check out the trailer below and tell me it doesn’t inspire you:
