Wind Power Could Provide U.S. Energy Demand With Plenty To Spare Posted by Danny Jensen on July 21, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Wind power could provide 16 times the amount of energy needed to power the United States according to a new study from the folks over at Harvard.  I’ve known a few Ivy leaguers to be full of hot air on occasion, but I am thrilled to hear that we could potentially generate such a tremendous amount of energy from a renewable source.  To take full advantage of wind power will obviously require an overhaul of our supply infrastructure, but the implementation would create thousands of green jobs, and costs would dramatically drop over time once the initial investments are put in place.  Efforts are already underway to maximize wind power potential using high altitude turbines.

The report compiled data from thousands of meteorological stations around the country, and will hopefully put to rest concerns that clean, renewable energy is beyond our grasp.  A major challenge to wind power will surely be the old guard of the fossil fuel industry, but fortunately the Obama administration, including Interior Department Secretary Ken Salazar, is in support of green power.  Full sail ahead!
