Taking Part with YouTube Posted by Giulia Rozzi on July 19, 2009 at 1:47 pm

When David Carroll’s guitar was broken on a US Airways flights and the airline did not take responsibility for the damage, Caroll took part and wrote a song about it called “United Breaks Guitars”, filmed it, and put it on YouTube. See the video below.

The song got a million hits in the first three days after it was posted on July 6, and Carroll got an offer from United to pay him to use the video in its training programs. Carroll responded, via YouTube video, that he would prefer the financial compensation go to charity. Considering Carroll and his band Sons of Maxwell are now getting massive media attention, I’m pretty sure plenty of other financial compensation will be coming their way. What an awesome example of using the Internet to fight for your consumer rights and promote your art.
