I don’t care much for sports or sports awards for that matter, but I do like that this year the ESPY awards made an awesome effort to be eco-friendly. Just a few of their impressive actions include:
*The red carpet was made out of 51,000 recycled plastic bottles
*Energy for the press tent, green room and DJ tent were powered by solar and wind energy
*The food and flatware was compostable
*The set and décor elements were designed for reuse with lots of the items being reused from the 2008 show
*They used low power LED screens, low VOC paints
*Items for the event were built with 100% responsibly harvested wood to be reused or donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Wow! And this is just a short list of what ESPN did to pratice what it calls “Environmentality.” Learn more about their efforts by visiting the ESPY Enviromentality page. And check out this video from last years awards featuring Kermit the Frog teaching athletes Shawne Merriman and Cobi Jones about going green.
The ESPYs air on ESPN tomorrow July 19 at 9pm.
