Ive been trying my best to keep up with the Sotomayor Confirmation Hearings the past few days. While a lot of it is just Senator’s tooting their own horns and battling over semantics, there are a lot of really important things being discussed.
One of those things came up when Al Franken (yay!) brought the issue of net neutrality to Sotomayor. In his impassioned speech, Franken asserted that keeping the internet open and equal was one of the most important free speech issues of our day.
Sotomayor responded with a kind of boring official response about the job of the court but it was still great for the issue to get some face time on such a large stage.  And it couldn’t have come from a better person than Al Franken, who due to his past and the way in which his election turned out, is someone folks will pay more attention to.
For more on Franken, Sotomayor and network neutrality, be sure to read the linked to piece from the fine folks at Save the Internet.
