Gov. Jindal Protects “Moral” Healthcare Posted by Giulia Rozzi on July 9, 2009 at 4:33 pm

jindal-bobbyGov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law a bill that law protects health providers from civil or criminal penalties, job loss or demotion because they refuse to provide certain services due to religious or moral grounds. These services include abortion, certain types of emergency contraception, human embryonic stem cell research and euthanasia.

So who is going to protect the patients who need such services? Passing such a law can make it difficult for people to access legal health services putting patients at risk. But supporters of the bill argue that health providers shouldn’t be punished if they refuse to perform care that violates their religious beliefs.

What do you think? Should healthcare providers do their job despite any moral issues or should they be able to pick and choose whatever care they feel comfortable providing?
