Many of us have been affected by Michael Jackson’s career in different ways. The King of Pop was a pioneer in his field, and used the millions he made to give back to a number of different charities.
As our blogger Giulia wrote about last week, Jackson is listed in the 2000 Guinness Book of World Records for “Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star.” His song, “We Are the World” co-written with Lionel Richie, raised more than $63 million for famine relief in Africa.
Although his controversial “Heal the World” Foundation, which brought low income kids to his Neverland ranch in California for over-night stays, raised charges of child molestation (of which he was eventually acquitted) Jackson’s philanthropic work undoubtedly set the precedent for future pop stars and celebrities.
