Can Michael Jackson Help Save Rats? Posted by Giulia Rozzi on July 6, 2009 at 2:04 pm

I’m home visiting my parents and found my Thriller Album which I got as a gift on my first communion. Ah it feels like just yesterday I was in my communion dress and veil getting down to Billie Jean. My mom kept telling me to get changed into my play clothes, but I just wanted to boogie. In other MJ news, I just heard that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) wants to use Jackson’s song “Ben” to raise attention on the plight of rodents used in laboratory experiments. The song was written for the 1972 film of the same name, is about the friendship between a lonely boy and his pet rat. Who knew?

Tracy Reiman, executive vice president of PETA, said in a statement last week “Michael Jackson’s hit has always been a moving testament to the power of empathy for animals. If more people could be inspired by his song to stop supporting the cruel and ineffective animal-testing industry, it would be a fitting and enduring tribute to this talented performer. ”
