Take Part, Pick A Card Posted by Giulia Rozzi on July 2, 2009 at 10:08 am

Change the world with a deck of cards? That’s the idea from the Boom Boom Revolution, hoping empowering people to be intentionally altruistic every day using a deck of dynamic, motivational action cards and an interactive online network. Cool idea, right?

The Boom Boom cards, aka the first “Kit For A Social Revolution,” encourage people to reach out to each other with the spirit of generosity. Just pick a card, commit the radical act of kindness (they call it a “boom boom,” which refers to the boomerang effect of performing kind acts), pass the card onto someone else so the act can be played forward, then track your card on the Boom Boom Cards website. The site includes a social networking component that builds community with comments, shared experiences, a global tracking map, video and photo posts.

According to Mary Beth Campbell, founder and CRO (Chief Revolution Organizer), “Like a boomerang, we believe that whatever thoughts, actions and words you put out into the world will eventually find their way back to you, but not before covering a lot of ground a long the way. The quickest and simplest way to communicate that karmic notion is by saying, ‘Boom Boom!’ You put it out, it comes back.”

And even if you don’t buy a set of Boom Boom cards, you can still perform your own random act of kindness today - hold the door open for someone, give somebody a genuine compliment, or buy a stranger a cup of coffee. It feels good to do good.
