Michael Jackson inspired countless kids (and adults) to sport a single sparkly glove, make the moonwalk their mission, and zig-zag like zombies, but do you remember going green for the King of Pop? It seems those of us growing up in the U.S. missed out on Jackson’s environmental rally cry, “Earth Song”, which topped even “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” on the U.K. charts, but was never released here. Thanks to TreeHugger, the song has re-emerged and could become a massive eco-anthem at a time when we desperately need to make some Jackson-esque dance moves if we’re going to combat climate change and clean up the planet (or “heal the world” if you will). Not surprisingly, the tune is pretty catchy and could encourage some rebellious, eco-warrior fist-pumping and foot-stomping, and while the big budget video may have had a Neverland-size carbon footprint, the message of reclaiming the planet from destructive and exploitative forces is all the more pertinent today. It’s also another great way to celebrate the man and his music. Alright, enough chat, take it away MJ…
