It seems time has stood still in Fort Worth, Texas, since the 1960s. Yesterday, on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots that many consider a turning point in the gay rights movement, an eerily similar event repeated itself at the predominantly-gay bar Rainbow Lounge. According to CNN, police raided the bar under the premise of a routine alcoholic beverage code inspection required for the safety of the patrons. Witnesses, however, tell a different story, protesting what they deem a blatant abuse of power under a transparent guise of justice. They say police came intent on arresting members of the gay community. Curiously, though the police claimed to be there for code inspection, they arrived with a paddy wagon, a vehicle that is equipped to transport prisoners. Seven patrons of the Rainbow Lounge were arrested, and one man was treated so roughly by police that he is now suffering head injuries and remains hospitalized.
