Iranian filmmakers Marjane Satrapi and Mohsen Makhmalbaf (also a Mousavi spokesman) have presented a document to Green Party MPs in the European parliament. They say the document comes from the Iranian electoral commission and although there is no way to verify this, the document says that Mir Hossein Mousavi received over 19 million votes in the weekend election while former parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi came second with a total of 13.3 million votes and president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came third with only 5.49 million votes.
Makhmalbaf says that Mousavi called him to tell him the truth and that he and Satrapi’s goal is to get the international community to recognize the coup:
“If anyone asked themselves whether the Iranian people are ready for democracy, the answer is yes, and we showed it by voting, but we were robbed of the vote. Now we need international support.”
