In continuing with my 40 days of Sesame Street, wherein I post awesome Sesame Street videos that showcase the issues we care about at TakePart, I am going to take inspiration from Travis’ awesome interview with the folks at FrontlineSMSMedic and look at how Sesame Street deals with doctors, hospitals and healthcare in general.
It may not seem like a big deal but teaching kids how things are supposed to go at the doctor’s office is pretty important. Sesame Street does a good job of making sure kids know that doctors should be compassionate and that they need to be able to talk about what is wrong with them. And in our world of big bad insurance companies and over eager pharmaceutical companies that encourage doctors to give us drugs we may not need, we really need confident, self-assured patients that know their rights and know their bodies.
