Pizza Man Attacked, A Community Helps Posted by Giulia Rozzi on June 10, 2009 at 10:58 am

heart-shaped-pizza-shotThis is a great story of strangers helping strangers. Last week in Evanston IL, Omar Gutierrez witnessed two men beat and rob Steve Walker, a Papa John’s pizza delivery man who was making a delivery.

After spending hours at the police station to view a line-up Gutierrez learned a lot about Walker including that he worked for the same man for 16 years, makes $6.75 an hour plus tips, has no health insurance (and sadly Walker was injured in the attack), and has no money to replace his car that was destroyed in the attack.

So Gutierrez decided he would help raise money to buy Walker a new car. Gutierrez got donations from neighbors and started a website Clyde Ave. neighbors care so that others could contribute. Within 72 hours, he raised nearly $1,400 as word spread through e-mails and word of mouth.

I just checked the site and as of June 9, the website has raised $16,009.90! What an inspirational example of people helping one another.

Hi I have a co-worker that is sixty something years old. She ties to work 40 hours a week, but can’t due to medical conditions. Abouyt a month ago she was trying to be a good person by some girls a ride. They stole her car and took all her money, which was about 140.00. About a week and a half later the police call and told her that her car was totalled in a high-speed chase in the Tampa area. This is a car that a christian service had given to her for free. I would like to something that this person did to try to get another car.
