Last night I headed to Prospect Park in Brooklyn to see the amazing David Byrne in the season’s first Celebrate Brooklyn concert. Celebrate Brooklyn is one of NYC’s longest running, free, outdoor performing arts festivals.
I was super excited to see David Byrne last night (we were four rows back from the VIP section!!!) and I got even more excited by how he opened his show. The first thing he did was to bring a bicycle out onto the stage (pictured to the left), talk about how he rode his own bike to the show and explain about Transportation Alternatives! For those of you that don’t know, Transportation Alternatives is an advocacy group for walking, biking and public transportation.
More or less they want less automobiles to be used! And the fact that D. Byrne took the time to not only plug their work to the thousands of people at the show but also to give away the pictured bicycle to someone that actually rode their bike to the show is pretty amazing.
But then again the entire show was beyond amazing. For proof check out the pictures and video below:
You’ll have to excuse the shaky camera - it is hard to film and dance! (also, my video is taking awhile to upload, so for now here is a video by someone else - who was obviously having the same dancing/filming problem - also they were even closer than I was!)
