One million new foreclosures have been filed since the beginning of 2009, which means roughly every 13 seconds someone has been faced with the prospect of having no place to live. The devastating numbers are expected to rise and as Change.org points out, the ripple effect of these quickly vacated house is felt throughout entire neighborhoods as property values drop and communities are destroyed. While some of those individuals and families are able to find a new place to stay, even temporarily, all too many find themselves with nowhere to turn. Joanne, recently interviewed by Mark Horvath of InvisiblePeople.tv, is one those people who now find themselves homeless following a foreclosure. Check out her interview below and learn more about her story through this beautiful slideshow Mark has put together about Joanne’s complicated situation. With increasing numbers of people forced out of their homes, we urgently need to work towards a comprehensive approach to ending homelessness and finding transitional programming to deal with the multitude of circumstances people are facing today.
