Prop 8 rallies are being planned all over the country for tonight including in my fair city-New York City. The details are below if you want to join your fellow New Yorkers in protest of today’s ruling in California. From the New York Times CityRoom blog:
“Demonstrators plan to meet at Sheridan Square, at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and West Fourth Street, and then to march east to Union Square for a rally in support of same-sex marriage in New York State and across America.” [Google Map]
In the words of New York City Council speaker, Christine C. Quinn, New York’s top openly gay elected official:
“We in New York will not be deterred in any way from our ongoing efforts to ensure civil rights for all people. We will continue to advocate, to write our legislators, to make our phone calls and to do all that we can to demand equal rights. This is not a time to give up, but a time to redouble our efforts. Now more than ever New York needs to join the states that have done the right thing granting equal civil rights to same-sex couples.”
