I love shopping and I really love supporting good causes when I shop. The best case scenario is always that my money not only gets me an item or thing I need but that it also supports people/institutions that I believe in.
This is why I am so excited about http://socialdesigner.com. Social Designer is a website that “curates and creates smart products that tune into the greater good. You can join the cause by submitting designs for our competitions, weighing in with your opinion, purchasing goods or just simply talking about them.”
When you shop you can actually see where the money from your purchase will go. For example if you by a t-shirt with the design to above, money will be donated to SPCA International. The most exciting on the site right now is that they have an open submission for designs related to the subject “local flavor.” The goal is to create a design for a tote bag that describes a local brand you like!
I can’t wait until it is for sale! Imagine buying local food in a local food tote bag that is supporting a local food group (in this case Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse Foundation)
