Apparently Oscar Meyer is giving away free hot dogs with coupons on their website.
While I am all for helping people out during these rough economic times, I don’t know if eating hot dogs is the answer. I mean what are you really getting for free?
Well I’ll tell you…
BEEF, WATER, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF: SALT, CORN SYRUP, DEXTROSE, SODIUM LACTATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATES, SODIUM DIACETATE, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), EXTRACTIVES OF PAPRIKA, DRIED GARLIC, SPICE, SODIUM NITRITE.
You’re also getting a lot of processing.
And of course you get 25 percent of your daily saturated fat and 20 percent of your sodium by eating just one hot dog. You might also be getting a higher risk of cancer. And while you may be getting less than 2 percent of some things, I tend to abide by the idea that if you don’t know what something is, don’t put it in your body.
And even though Oscar Mayer does serve all beef franks, meaning there is no mixing of meats, I shudder to think about what part of the cow that beef is coming from.  The fact is that with processed meat you’ll never know. I saw save your printer ink and buy some veggies or fresh meat. Even though free can seem fun, is it worth risking you health?
