Have you ever wondered how education affects your community? Sure it helps people get jobs but according to the American Human Development Project, it also impacts health, life expectancy, self-worth and more. To illustrate their point they’ve put together an online tool that allows you to enter in your county to see how improved education could change your hometown and your own well-being.
Their “Common Good Forecaster” shows that investing in education can pay off in really big ways for communities.Â
For example, when I looked at Lake County in Ohio (where I grew up and where I am now) I learned that people who acquire education beyond high school have a life expectancy of 7 more years than those who do not.   I was also able to look at areas such as general health, financial stability, community involvement and of course education.
This is pretty common sense stuff - but common sense stuff that most people/the government seem to forget about when prioritizing time and energy and money. I’m glad there is a group out there working to remind us.
Check out the Common Good Forecaster HERE and learn how education could help your community.
