At the TakePart HQ, we’ve done a ton of stuff worth bloggin‘ about that’s kept us a little holed up. Though we may not have seen the sunlight for a few days, quite a few things popped up outside these walls that are worth a read. Now for the second edition of my weekly linkery:
1. Second Chances with a Magazine
New/incredible magazine LANDFILL just published their first issue on 100% post-consumer paper. What’s the magazine about, you ask? Second chances on life…because everyone should have another stab at doing something great (even paper). Check it out online or get your own.
2. Be a part of the Human Encyclopedia
The Global Lives Project needs filmmakers, translators and lots of other people to help make their human encyclopedia dream come true. Ten people from around the world are currently being chosen and filmed over a 24-hour time period to chronicle their life experiences. The final thing will be cut together and projected in a circular room. Sounds one part Disneyland, one part Nova, five parts incredible. (via API News)
While tons of crafty, techy people will make the yearly pilgrimage to the San Mateo Fairgrounds at the end of the month for some MAKE mag inspiration, Africa’s hosting it’s own “ingenuity, innovation, and invention” celebration later this summer. Book your ticket to Ghana and check out the future of Africa…or just sit where you, make a donation and get inspired at Afrigadget.com.
No, this isn’t some bizarre rich-people-play-Monopoly-through-zero-carbon-emissions thing. There’s a new site called Earth Aid that gives actual advice on dealing with your home energy use and, get this, gives you money based off of the energy you conserve. WHAT?! SRSLY??!! I have no idea how this site makes miracles happen, but I’m signing up.
5. Not-So-Cheesy Donation Cans
Finally. Someone got the donation can thing right. Childhope, an organization that helps street kids, is using the typically-lame tin can to show you how your money is actually going to help.
Some People is compiling obscure stories that are worth telling. They’re calling for people - that’s you - to submit stories (think photos, videos, written stuff) about someone you think the world should know about. Or, if you sadly have no one in mind, check out their archives (or go volunteer…or something).
Got a few hot hot links of your own you wanna share? Email feedback@takepart.com, write it in the comments below, or send me a tweeeeet.
