China’s Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of Sichuan Province, will air tonight on HBO at 8pm and I strongly urge you to watch. The documentary follows the quest for justice by grieving families in Sichuan who lost their children in collapsed schools during last year’s devastating earthquake. The film gives a voice to these families and aims to help understand how shoddy construction, corruption and lack of government accountability may have worsened this already heart-wrenching tragedy. Co-directors Jon Alpert and Matt O’Neill spoke today on Democracy Now! about the film:
The film will surely be an enightening glimpse into the aftermath of this terrible event and will hopefully encourage the Chinese government, and other nations, to take more responsiblity during natural disasters. If you miss it tonight, China’s Unnatural Disasters will re-air on the anniversary of the earthquake (5/12) at 11pm.
