Going in a new direction, The Visitor’s Tom McCarthy has signed on to direct HBO’s fantasy pilot “Game of Thrones.”

Game of Thrones is based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling “Songs of Fire” and follows people as they search for power in an epic world of fantasy.  I can’t wait to see what McCarthy does with fantasy as he does reality so well (The Station Agent, The Visitor, The Wire).  Also exciting is the fact that a key role on the program will be played by Peter Dinklage who also starred in McCarthy’s first film The Station Agent.
