Mexico Resuming Normal Business in 48 Hours Posted by Jon Popham on May 4, 2009 at 11:27 pm

mexican-flagMexico has announced plans to resume normal business on May 6th in light of a steep decline in new infections of the H1N1 flu virus.  Mexican Federal Health Minister Jorge Angel Cordova said that activities in the public and private sphere will resume on May 6th.  Schools in our neighbor to the south will remain closed until May 11th however.

Thankfully it looks as though the death toll of the H1N1 virus in Mexico was lower than originally thought.  Out of 176 suspected cases of swine flu it turned out only 101 were confirmed by laboratory testing.

This is, of course, some very welcome news for the people of Mexico who have been hit hard not only by this recent virus but also the ongoing drug carnage which has consumed many regions of the country and, to top it all off, an earthquake in Mexico City last week.    We should also note that the actions by Mexico’s government and their fast response in identifying and isolating the virus have so far been very successful and deserve credit.
