Sixty Percent of Americans Live in High Pollution Areas Posted by Andy Kondrat on April 29, 2009 at 11:10 am

Hey, good news! You’re probably getting too much pollution. But you knew that, didn’t you?

Sixty percent of Americans live in areas with unhealthy air pollution levels, despite a growing green movement and more stringent laws aimed at improving air quality, according to a new study on air pollution…Overall, the study found that air pollution hovers at unhealthy levels in almost every major city and that 186.1 million people live in those areas. I guess that makes sense, in that I think approximately 184 million people live in the greater Los Angeles area, and I think I’ve seen the skyline there once. Oh, look, here’s a statement from the article backing up at least half of what I just said.

Three California cities - Los Angeles, Long Beach and Riverside - remained the metropolitan areas with the highest levels of ozone pollution, as they have in each of the past 10 reports.

The cleanest area in every category judged is Fargo, North Dakota. But to get the advantages of the clean air there, you’d have to live in Fargo, North Dakota. So…yeah.
