It’s Equal Pay Day, a yearly event aimed at raising awareness about the persistant wage gap between men and women in the United States. The fourth Tuesday of April marks the day when the average woman’s wages finally catch up with what the average man earned last year, and it takes until Tuesday for women to catch up with what men earned the previous week. Crazy, right?
Can you believe that it’s 2009, and women aren’t able to receive equal pay for equal work?! Women still earn only 78 cents for every dollar a man makes, and while The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act , the first bill President Obama signed into law, helped improve the situation, there is still a ways to go towards pay equity. The next step towards fighting this long standing discrimination requires Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.

Many women older than me say it is a man’s world.
Sad but they are right.
Men have different priorities than woman.
I once told my X that with men ruling we would be extinct soon. He came back at me: if women ruled we would still be living in caves.
I guess it takes both to make a better world.
When will our leaders learn?
