My Tribeca Today! Posted by Gina Telaroli on April 27, 2009 at 8:21 am

I am super excited for what’s on my Tribeca docket today:

  1. A screening of About Elly - a film that presents “a complex portrait of the contradictory lives young Iranians must lead in a quasi-theocratic society.”  I adore Iranian cinema and cinema about women (and think both are extremely important) so I am excited to start my day with this.
  2. A possible screening of The House of the Devil - a classic horror flick.  I’ve heard really good things and also hope, that like many horror films, there is a secret social/political message!
  3. A screening of Cropsey - one of the hottest documentaries at Tribeca this year. It explores urban legends and perhaps more importantly a town in crisis and a very serious issue - the disappearance of children.  I often find that films like this have so much more to say about the politics of small town life than films directly dealing with the subject.

If you are at Tribeca this year let me know if you’ve seen anything good and if you aren’t at the festival let me know if their are any films you’re dying to hear about! In the coming days I’ll be seeing and reporting on some of the very specific social issue documentaries that always make Tribeca stand out - so stay tuned!
