The Environmental Protection Agency keeps on rolling with its “Let’s take a look at the rules the Bush Administration put into place” agenda, announcing today that the EPA is reviewing three controversial rules pertaining to power plants that the previous administration enacted. Says the New York Times,
The agency plans to reconsider Bush-era New Source Review (NSR) regulations regarding how “fugitive” emissions are used to determine whether industries will be forced to upgrade air pollution controls, a rule addressing how facilities keep records on emissions and a rule governing how industries account for air emissions associated with fine particle pollution when obtaining a permit.
“Fugitive” emissions are those which come from places other than smokestacks and vents at power plants, which “environmental groups argued…would allow industry to avoid stricter regulations while increasing air pollution levels.” Industry people, however, are big fans.
The EPA is going to reopen these rules to public comment in the Federal Register, which I’ve never heard of but can be found here. Go nuts.
