It’s Sunday, again, and so what better awesome Sunday omnivores than one of my favorite bands of all time, Rocket From the Crypt? Now, I’ve been shying away from writing this post for a very long time, because I have no idea how to narrow down the videos to show in this post. There are just so many, and they’re just so good. But let’s start with “Born in ‘69,” off the amaaaaazing Scream, Dracula, Scream! This video sums up the band pretty well: classic vibe, matching suits, awesome rock.
So, at this point, I’m lost. I’ve been searching YouTube for quite a while, just working to find the video that’s going to sum up my love for the band for you. And I don’t think it’s possible. So, how about the song they’re “known” for, if they’re known at all? It’s “On a Rope,” and this video was shot because the first one they recorded was shot down by the record company. So they made something as non-offensive as possible.
I’m going to keep this short and sweet, because I’m still having too much trouble figuring out which videos to show, and I’m just gonna go ahead and post the little trailer for Rocket’s CD/DVD of their last show ever. I think it sums up well the aura, power, and awesomeness of the band. The video was shot by San Diego director Marc Gariss, and he’s awesome. Just so you know. The song is “I’m Not Invisible,” off Live From Camp X-Ray. It is not a live album.
Oh, what the hey…a live record store version of “Ghost Shark,” off Group Sounds, which is just amazing.
I know I haven’t done the band justice, but go out, right now, and buy Scream, Dracula, Scream. And Group Sounds. And Live From Camp X-Ray. And RFTC. And Circa:Now!. And All Systems Go, all three volumes. And Paint as a Fragrance. And RIP: RFTC. And Hot Charity/Cut Carefully and Play Loud. Just, go buy everything Rocket From the Crypt. Now.
