If you’re anything like me, whenever you hear the names of both golf course creator Justin Timberlake and Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco, the first thought that comes to your mind is, “Hey, when are those two guys gonna climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for the worldwide water crisis?” Well, we now have an answer for that - soon!
Timberlake and Fiasco, along with singer Kenna, will climb Africa’s highest peak this fall, hoping to gain attention for the worldwide water crisis. OBVIOUSLY. MTV, however, does report that this does actually make sense.
“My dad almost died as a child from waterborne diseases in Ethiopia, and he had talked to me about digging a well there, and I thought, ‘I have too many friends who would be concerned with the subject of clean water. Maybe I can help out,’ ” Kenna told Elle magazine in a recent interview.
So the three are in training, Timberlake being all like, yeah, I am gonna rock this mountain.
Timberlake is training like a pro, according to GQ. “I’ve been training four times a week to get my VO2 [oxygen consumption] levels up to expand my lungs,” he told the magazine. “We’ll climb for a week straight, carrying 30 pounds on our backs. It’s going to be intense, but it’s going to be so rewarding. Plus, we’re going to be ready for it.”
To be honest, this is a story I never in a million years would have thought I would be writing. But good on them for doing something this challenging for a cause this worthy. You can takepart and learn more about the world water crisis. And, I’m sure someone’ll be filming this whole thing, so keep your eyes peeled for video at some point.
