The Obama administration is expected to propose a federal endangerment finding, which will provide scientific support that climate change poses a serious health risk to public health and welfare. Hopefully tomorrow’s proposal will help set in motion proposed legislation to cut U.S. emissions of carbon dioxide by 20% by the year 2020:

“The announcement due tomorrow is an important symbolic step as Congress plans to get down to business on climate change talks this year. Supporters of climate change legislation, or what is more commonly known as ‘cap and trade’ legislation, see this step as necessary to ensure that federal greenhouse gas regulations hold legal water.”

This type of legislation will be critical in helping to reduce our countries greenhouse gas emissions, but the efforts can’t stop there.  We need to continue to pressure the Obama administration and other global leaders to take larger steps to addressing climate change.  Cap and trade programs can minimize greenhouse gas output, but ultimately we need to move quickly into a clean energy future.
