President Barack Obama announced plans yesterday to purchase 17,600 fuel efficient cars from American manufacturers.  By June 1st of this year the Federal government will spend $285 Million in stimulus funds to buy the new fleet from Detroit car companies General Motors, Ford & Chrysler.  Included in the purchase will be 2,500 hybrid automobiles, the largest order yet of hybrids for the federal government.

The move is yet another Win-Win-Win for the Obama Administration which has demonstrated repeatedly that it knows how to accomplish multiple benefits out of a single move.  With the purchase the Federal government will 1) do its part to cut down on its own fossil fuel emissions by using more fuel efficient cars, 2) save on its own gas bill in a world where the cost of fuel can go up to $4.00+ on a moment’s notice and 3) assist auto manufacturers and their workers in Detroit and around the country that can really use a helping hand during these difficult times.
