Whale Spotted in New York Harbor Posted by Danny Jensen on April 9, 2009 at 4:53 pm

A humpback whale was spotted swimming under the Verrazano Bridge in the New York Harbor this morning, but the confused animal seems to be heading back out to the ocean on his own accord. The Coast Guard and the Riverhead Foundation Marine Research and Preservation team created a safety zone around the lonely whale, which nearly beached itself on Rockaway Beach yesterday, and say it appears to be in good health.

And while this guy may have just been hoping to see The Little Mermaid on Broadway, there is a real concern that the migration patterns of endangered whales are coming dangerously close to New York City.
takepart by joining the NRDC’s efforts to protect endangered whales from Navy sonar, and have fun playing the whale migration game.
