Stephen Colbert has a long history of getting fans to name stuff after him. Having already put his name on Hungarian bridges, ice hockey mascots, and an elephant seal named “Stelephant Colbert,” he has set his sights a little bit higher with his most recent attempt to name a $100 billion international space station node.
The recently knighted TV host asked his notoriously diligent fans to vote on a NASA website to name the newest portion of the international space station after him. Colbert’s write-in campaign to name ISS Node 3 was a resounding success, with the name “Colbert” coming out on top. Needless to say, NASA was blindsided by the victory and immediately backtracked on the poll. According to the Huffington Post, The space agency is now deciding whether to let the name slide or give it to runner-up “Serenity” which lost by 400,000 votes.
In his naming campaign, Colbert has received the help of US Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA). See what our hero has to say about the endorsement above.
