We’ve likely all had to make decisions we didn’t want to face during this recession. The economic despair we’re facing has undoubtedly adversely impacted environmentalism. Case in point: Last August, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors repealed its longstanding opposition to offshore oil drilling, which dates back to 1969 when a Union Oil platform began leaking 3 million gallons of crude oil in to the ocean. But fortunately this week the board passed a resolution to once again oppose the drilling, albeit an advisory. Proposals still must go through the approval process of the Interior Department, but I’m glad to see that they’ve come (back) to their senses after a short departure.
