takepart to read the entire transcript and let us know what you think about Obama’s trip to Europe in the comments. I have to admit that is was a bit distressing as well as amusing that the audience seemed to be filled with so many Americans. My favorite part of his his speech?

In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive. But in Europe, there is an anti-Americanism that is at once casual but can also be insidious. Instead of recognizing the good that America so often does in the world, there have been times where Europeans choose to blame America for much of what’s bad.

Way to admit the complexity of it all!

I like this comment, it is refreshingly honest. As an American who has traveled much the past 3 years, I have endured often the self-righteous, anti-American remarks from Europeans, mostly British and I have to admit that I have lost patience with their remarks. Obama is right, Americans can carry an air of entitlement where ever they go, but I guarantee you we mean well as statistics show we are the most generous when it comes to charity. And Obama is right in that American citizens are tired of the U.S., with little or no help, or criticism from Europeans/British, being the one held accountable for everything from technology, financial, settling conflicts, etc. I could go on a rant about the Anti-American comments I have experienced overseas from Europeans, never Middle-Easterners or Asians (funny), but I won’t. I think Obama has so eloquently stated exactly how I feel.
