Well, it’s Friday afternoon, and I saw former Sunday awesome vegetarian John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats play live on Wednesday, and I want to share a song he played from that show, to pump you up for the weekend. Because nothing screams “weekend” like two dudes with acoustic guitars (the other man being the very talented John Vanderslice) singing, “I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me.” Oh, also, Darnielle’s hat comes from the fact that he came onstage Wednesday in a Phantom of the Opera costume. Obviously.
Man, so good. My parents saw him perform a few weeks ago, and said it was excellent. You know you’ve found a great band when a mid-20s dude and his parents can both dig it. I think it’s basically Mountain Goats, and, I dunno, Simon and Garfunkel that can do that. Speaking of, I have a theory that, on average, every single household in America owns a copy of Paul Simon’s Graceland. Because for every family that doesn’t have a copy, there’s one that has like seven. But now we’re really getting off topic. How about one more song from Wednesday? After the jump.
I love his fun banter concerning The Who before singing a song which has the chorus of “I hope you die, I hope we both die.” By the way, I’m that one guy who would enjoy an encore of “Boris the Spider.”
We’ve gone on long enough, I think. Enjoy the weekend, and takepart and learn about vegetarianism. They have the results of America’s sexiest vegetarian on there! Again, I was overlooked by the committee. Jerks.
