SXSWi: Holy Geekfest! Posted by Adriana Dunn on March 14, 2009 at 5:06 pm

4 pm local time, Austin, Texas—It’s my first time at SXSWi (actually my first tech conference of this size), and I’m loving every single nerd-infested minute. It was overwhelming at first, admittedly, but now I feel right at home. I’m even laughing with my peers at the Star Wars joke Merlin Mann just made.

Interesting tidbit: @Comcast is now on Twitter. Check out the tweets people are sending them.

Not shocking: 90 percent of the people here are male.

Back in a few with updates from the panel I’m at: “149 Surprising Ways to Turbocharge Your Blog With Credibility!”

+++

Panelists: John Gruber (DaringFireball.net) and Merlin Mann (43Folders.com) discussing how to build a thoughtful blog.

Suggestion: Figure out who your “ideal reader” is, keeping in mind that “reader” applies to photos, music, copy, etc. and know you can’t please everybody.

“Most days I don’t wear pants.” (Gruber) Note: I’m jealous.

“Don’t have a blog on Star Wars, have a blog on Jawas.” (Mann) Note: second Star Wars reference of panel.

Identify your ideal reader. (hey Sully!)

Find your obsession that no one else is writing and pour yourself into it. (Gruber)

4:45 pm Take-aways: Curate the web responsibly, and it’s ok to have a strong voice about something, about anything.
