Right now Sacramento has one of the highest rates of foreclosure in America causing many to lose their homes. Shelters in Sacramento are so full that some have been forced to taken refuge in a “tent city” located on land between the American River and the Blue Diamond plant which lacks running water and bathrooms. After being featured on countless news programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show the tent city has started to receive a number of donations, but it’s not enough. Sacramento authorities need to create adequate shelters, affordable housing, and (in the meantime) safe “legalized” campground where homeless people can have clean water, bathrooms, and trash services.
And as if living in such horrible conditions wasn’t bad enough, yesterday campers were told they have to leave the property because the tent city is considered a safety and health hazard. So what will happen to the over 1200 people sleeping outside every night in Sacramento?
