Time.com has a rather depressing list up of 10 major newspapers that they predict will fold or go digital next.
The list is as follows
The Cleveland Plain Dealer (my old hometown paper)
Their list also explains why they predict that each paper will fold or move online exclusively. Either way I find the entire thing kind of depressing. It is somewhat hard to imagine that when I am old I will have to explain to my children what a newspaper was.
I also wonder what will happen if most papers go online - I’d assume most would need to charge something - which would change the entire way online news works these days. It is important that we have access to good news, but it also important that good news be something people seek out - which could change if people only go for free sources. Hmmm…
While we wait to see what happens to the above papers and many other forms of media, why not takepart by checking out Media Matters.

This may be bad news for our economy but good news for our environment. It staggers me to think of how many trees we go through a day to print our newspapers. Anyone know?
The Plain Dealer would like to note that reports of our death are greatly exaggerated. Or, in the exact word of Publisher Terrance C.Z. Egger, “baseless.”
Thanks for the update John! I love The Plain Dealer and was sad to read the piece on Time - I hope the PD continues to have a long life.
